Troop 149 Canoe Campout Oct 3-5
What: Canoe/campout! We will be in for a great time canoeing on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. We will camp at Shenandoah River Outfitters Friday night and then get bussed and dropped at the put-in on the river Saturday morning. We'll canoe 9 miles and camp on the river Saturday night. Sunday we will canoe 2 more miles to the take-out and get bussed back to the cars at the Outfitter's.
Trip Dates and Times: October 3-5. Leave Friday from church parking lot at 5pm, return Sunday around 11:30am.

Cost: $50/person for camping, canoe and transportation. Bring check and permission slip to any meeting and hand to Ward or Will L.
What to Bring: Pack for canoe travel…gear goes in waterproof bags instead of backpacks. Plan for meals to be: Friday dinner: bag lunch on the road, Saturday Breakfast: hot in camp, Saturday lunch: cold on river, Saturday dinner: hot on the river campsite, Sunday breakfast: cold on river campsite.
Note: Everyone who participates in the canoeing must be a swimmer and have already passed the BSA swim test within the last 12 months (no earlier than October 5, 2013).
Directions from D.C. Area: 66W to Exit 43A at Gainesville. Take Rt. 29 South to Warrenton (or take the next Exit 41 Haymarket to Rt. 29 South). Follow signs to Rt. 211 W to Luray. At Luray, (Follow signs for Shenandoah River Outfitters), take 2nd Exit for 340 South Business, go one block. Turn right onto Rt 675-Mechanic St; go 4 miles (Bixlers Ferry Rd.); cross Shenandoah River.
Once you cross the River–turn right onto S. Page Valley Rd–Rt 684. To go to the Shenandoah River Outfitters' Store–continue on South Page Valley Rd for 7 miles to Outfitters' on right. The hours there are 8 AM to 5 PM. App. 90 miles from Beltway. About 2 hours.
