Troop: see below for info on a cool opportunity to have dinner
with 20 Japanese students from Nagano. The event is not until August 2
(check that you're not on vacation!) but we need to RSVP by June 20th.
If you're interested, please email Mr. Vargas (don't reply to this) at cv@chrisandmaria.com
ASAP. First 10 Scouts who reply get to attend! (Include t-shirt size)
This is a great opportunity so don't pass it up. Shingeki no kyojen!
For
the last 3 summers our Girl Scout troop has hosted a group of 20
Japanese students from Nagano. They are sponsored by a media
organization in Japan and visit DC and NY. Most of their itinerary
involves media and political visits, and the only time they interact
with teens is here in DC. This year there are 8 boys and 12 girls, aged
12-18. The event is paid for by the Japanese media group, and we just
help organize it and get the American teens there.
The
US contact is involved in Girl Scouts in Japan, so that is how we got
involved. But, we really need to get boys there, preferable Boy
Scouts!! That is where you come in. Hoping you can help us get 8-10
teen boys to participate. It has been a lot of fun, and we usually have
the same Girl Scouts attend each year because they enjoy it.
Date: Tuesday, August 2
Time: 4-8 (4pm set up, event is from 5-7:30)
Place: Fairlington Community Center
Activities:
icebreakers (last year we did teen bingo and skits in teams), then we
will have a taco bar dinner, and round table “chats” with your dinner
companions around social and cultural topics (similar to last year). We
will also have a Scouting display so that we can share a bit more about
Scouting than we have in the past. And, we want to allow time for the
Japanese students to share songs or music.
Swaps:
like last year we will ask the American attendees to bring their
favorite snack food to swap with the Japanese students (and you can
bring another item if you want to). We will also buy some sort of Girl
Scout item to give them (water bottle, key chain, etc). As you know,
the Japanese students bring some fun stuff, so we want to be prepared
(and not embarrassed).
Attendees:
there will be 20 Japanese students (8 boys and 12 girls), so we will
look to have 20 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as well.
Action: please rsvp by June 20 and tell me your t-shirt size
