Sea Base 2019 -- Interest Survey

Believe it or not, it's time to think about attending Sea Base 2019! The lottery for spaces opens up soon, and we have to know soon what kind of interest there is for Scouts and adults in attending. 

Sea Base is one of the four National High Adventure Bases run by the BSA. You sail for a week out of the Florida Keys, visiting islands, snorkeling, and helping to sail.

Traditionally, Troop 149 attends every high adventure base, giving all Scouts the opportunity to earn the Triple Crown (attending 3 of the 4) or the Grand Slam (attending all four). We plan on attending Sea Base during Spring 2019, coinciding with Arlington Public School's spring break--that would mean around April 13-21, 2019. 

ANY SCOUT THAT PLANS ON ATTENDING MUST:

• Be 13 years old by April 13th 2019 (this means some Apache Helicopters and all Leafs and higher should be old enough to attend)
• Be a strong swimmer: you must pass the BSA Swim Test "in a strong manner" prior to arrival, and you will be required to pass the swim test at Sea Base
• Troop 149 requires that you be a First Class Scout or higher in order to attend

We will also need one parent to be in charge of the trip: this means coordinating all aspects of travel, paperwork, deposits, etc. We have parents who have done this before and can help. If you are interested, please fill out the interest form. Without a parent who is willing to be in charge of the trip, we will not attend Sea Base. So, Scouts, if you want to attend Sea Base, ask your parent to volunteer to be in charge!

Sea Base fees are approximately $800 for the base, plus additional transportation costs (air fare to Florida and van rental).
