Backpacking Campout 2018 - May 11-13th - Sign Up!

This backpacking trip won’t be anyplace exotic or demanding, but it will support as many people as want to attend, and hey, it’s backpacking—which is required for some merit badges, including the Eagle-required Cooking merit badge.

Your transport will drop you off on the VA side of Chain Bridge. We will hike across the bridge onto the towpath covering a long but flat 7 miles, staying at the Marsden Tract campground.

Saturday we will check out the falls and the crazy kayakers, and hike on a Billy Goat trail or two.

Sunday we will pack up and hike back less than a mile to the Carderock parking lot for pickup by your adult.

There will be a mandatory pack shakedown at the Monday meeting before the Campout. Bring a fully packed backpack. I will send a list of gear later. We will divide up tents and communal gear at that point.

Price? A big $5.09 to cover cost of the campground.

The Troop has a few backpacks to use if you don’t have one. First come first served.

Now, this will be flat, but it will be 7 miles with 30+ pounds on your back. If you aren’t sure you can do it, you might just skip this one.

Sign up soon!
