Drew K Eagle Scout Project -- Garden Beds

Hello all,

My name is Drew K, and I will be doing my Eagle Scout project in about 2 weeks time!

My project involves the construction of 4 raised garden beds in a low-income housing area in Arlington called Buckingham Gardens. The garden beds are sustainable, and will be maintained and used by the residents living there to supplement their produce. They will also be used for summer classes on how to grow vegetables and fruit. It is about a block away from Barrett Elementary and just a couple blocks from Route 50 on George Mason Drive.

On June 9th and 10th, we will be treating the lumber that will be used in the garden beds in order to make sure the wood used will not rot. For high schoolers, there is an ACT on that Saturday, but it should be a short and easy process to treat all the wood needed, so please consider coming to help!

On June 16th, we will construct the garden beds, as well as fill them with soil, mulch, and fertilizer.

Food and refreshments will be provided at both of these events.

This is a great way to not only get service hours for rank advancement, but also an opportunity to help your community! Please consider signing up for my Eagle Scout project!

Thanks!
