Troop 149 will have its Merit Badge and Advancement weekend on December 7-9. We will once again be staying at the Blackburn Trail Center cabin located on the Appalachian Trail just outside of Round Hill, VA. Located on a 150 acre wooded tract, the commercial style kitchen provides two propane gas stoves, refrigerator and freezer, double sinks and two dishwashers. The kitchen is also well stocked with pots, pans and dishes, etc. It has electricity, hot and cold water, and wood burning stoves.
(Note that staying in the Trail Center does NOT count as "camping nights." If you need camping nights for advancement or merit badges, you will have to camp in a tent outside like us hard-core campers)
The weekend is designed to be a merit badge and advancement weekend that may include:
- First Aid (Eagle required -- should have been earned at Sinoquipe but if you didn't get it, now you can)
- Camping (Eagle required -- will not be extensive, just starting it or filling in partial requirements)
- Moviemaking (limited to 7 Scouts, prioritized by rank, then order of signup)
- Wilderness Survival (limited to 8 Scouts) -- Focus will be on first aid, fire building, shelters and signaling for help. After sleeping in the cabin on Friday night, we will begin working on this MB after breakfast on Saturday and will sleep that night in shelters we construct during the day.
- Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class requirements for those who are not yet First Class or higher
- Helping with advancement for above (should be Star and Life scouts who don't need any of the above)
Cost is $35.35 / attendee for the cabin rental. Please pay for the cabin using the PayPal link below.
As always, pay your grubmaster $20 in cash on the Friday we depart. Adults pay their grubmaster $25 cash.
You must also have your signed permission slip (signed by you AND your parent) submitted before departure. Send to Cathy Gaudian (cmgaudian@gmail.com)
