Alonzo Stagg 10-20-50 mile hikes coming March 14!

On March 14th (21st as a rain date), Troop 149 will once again take part in the local Alonzo Stagg hikes. Who should take part? Everyone! Both Scouts and parents. Why?

10 Mile Hike: it's a nice easy hike, with plenty of support and great scenery. If you're new to the Alonzo Stagg hikes, you can start with a 10 mile hike. Plus, if you're working on the Hiking merit badge, this counts! If you haven't gotten your Hiking merit badge, get a blue card and use this as your first required hike! Parents welcome!

20 Mile Hike: This will be the easiest 20 mile hike you've ever done. There are water AND food stops every 8 miles or so. And, again, if you're working on or starting your Hiking merit badge, this will be the easiest way to get the 20 mile hike requirement. If you've done the 10 in the past, step it up a notch and sign up for the 20 this year. Parents welcome!

50 Mile Hike: Why would someone hike 50 miles in 20 hours? Why not? You get serious bragging rights, an awesome medal and certificate, a cool 50/20 Euro-style car decal, Internet-wide recognition on the Alonzo Stagg Hall of Fame, and the ability to say "I hiked 50 miles in 20 hours or less." Note: anyone signing up for the 50 mile hike must take part in at least one training hike of 25 miles. We will be holding one on February 28th, from 5AM-1PM. Contact Mr. Vargas for more details. PARENTS WELCOME!!!!

These hikes are incredibly well run, with water and food stops, pack shuttles for the 50 milers, and lots of volunteer support. "Sweepers" make sure all Scouts arrive safely, and there are multiple check points. You can find out (lots and lots) more info at the Troop 111 Alonzo Stagg web page.

There is a fee which is still to be determined. More details as they become available.
