June 2016 Trip to Summit High Adventure! Interested? Read on!

Scouts:

Troop 149 went to the Northern Tier high adventure camp this past summer. Scouts are attending Seabase in the spring of 2016, and the signup for Philmont in summer 2017 has just finished.

But... there is another.*

Namely, the Summit high adventure camp in West Virginia!

The newest BSA National High Adventure program is an option for those who want the Triple Crown award (attending 3 high adventure camps), or the brand-new Grand Slam award (attending all 4 high adventure camps).

What do you get to do at the Summit? Pretty much anything you want! Check out the different programs here:

One awesome thing about the Summit is that you can pick what you want to do. Want to go whitewater rafting for three days? You got it. Want to focus on shooting sports (including pistols)? Done. Want to improve your mountain biking or rock climbing? Go for it. Want a little bit of everything? That's possible too! Scouts can either "buddy up" and coordinate their programs, or meet new friends in "program patrols." We all end up back at base camp every day for dinner and more fun.

Another big difference about the Summit--no air fare expense! We can drive there! However, this will limit the amount of Scouts that we can take to 10, unless additional adults attend and can drive.

The focused programs range from $780-$940; the "Summit Experience" sampler is $759.

Mr. Gerard and I (Mr. Vargas) are willing to take a ten-Scout crew to the Summit, and this email is meant to "test the waters" to see who is interested in going.

HOWEVER, PLEASE READ THE NEXT FEW IMPORTANT "IF"S CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING UP TO SAY "I'm interested in going!"

Please sign up IF...

you will be 13 years old (or older) by September 1, 2016 (i.e. next September), and IF...
* you are First Class rank or will reach First Class by June 2016, and IF...
you would be able to attend June 26 to July 2, 2016 (that's the week after school ends... also note that Sinoquipe starts July 10), and IF...
your parents are prepared to pay half of the camp fees within 30 days of getting our requested dates from the camp. The other half is due by end of March 2016.

Depending on interest, we reserve the right to give priority to older Scouts who won't have another chance at attending the Summit.

Note that these are a lot of IFs. There is also a chance that we can't get reservations for that week. That will cancel the entire trip before it gets started.

But, if all of the above IFs work for you, check out the camp and then sign up if you are interested.

Yes, that's a Star Wars reference.
