New Scout Campout : March 4-6

When:  March 4th- 6th , 2016.  Departure on Friday March 4th is from the CUMC parking lot at 5pm.  Please arrive at least by 4:45.  Grubmasters and Patrol Leaders should arrive at 4:30pm.  We should be home on Sunday around 11am. Meet on the Lorcom Lane side of the church on Sunday for pickup. Scouts will call from the road when we are about 15 minutes from church.

Where:  Drum Point where the Patuxent flows into the Chesapeake Bay.  Near Lusby, MD.   There are a few more pictures below.

Who:  You and our new scouts that just joined the Troop.

What:  We will go over all the basic skills and work on advancement.  Games will be played (this location is perfect for Capture the Flag) and we will enjoy the beautiful surroundings.  A short hike to Calvert Cliffs (very close) and a little fossil hunting might happen if time allows.

Parents: Please plan to bring your own tents, chairs, ground tarps, sleeping bags, and other essentials.  The troop will take care of tents and tarps for the scouts but parents need to bring their own.  And everyone needs to bring their own sleeping bags.

Cost: $15 per scout, $20 for adults

Brian Kellenberger will be collecting permission slips and money at the next meeting.

As the attached pictures show you, this is a very special place.  Beautiful and secluded.  We can thank the Edinger's for pulling the necessary strings to give us access to the Drum Point Club property.  We were the first group to ever camp at this very secluded location.  We will be careful to "Leave No Trace".  We will provide a service to the Club and clean up the beach.  Having been there recently, because of its privacy, there is not too much involved in this cleanup.

As mentioned above, among other things, we will focus on helping the new scouts learn some basic camping skills.  These skills will include fire-building, safe use of knives/axes, setting up tents/tarps, cooking, KP and others, as time permits.

All new scouts should come prepared on Friday night to earn requirement #1 of Tenderfoot.  They should show up properly dressed for a campout and we'll check out their packs to make sure they brought the right gear either at the church or at Drum point. .

New Scouts: See pages 292-293 of the scout book for some guidance on what to bring.  The Troop provides tents, stoves, cooking equipment, lanterns and tarps, if necessary.  Scouts should bring a mess kit, eating utensils, water bottle, sleeping bags, sleeping pads and their scout book.  New scouts should not bring knives, even if they have earned the 'Whittlin' Chip".  No one is to bring phones or electronics.  The adults have phones.

That's it for now.   This is going to be a great trip!
