New Scout Campout - March 17th-19th, 2017

We are heading back to the banks of Antietam Creek near Boonsboro, MD for our annual New Scout Campout. Great flat camping space, a large covered pavilion, picnic tables, woods, fields and lots of hiking trails close by.

Among other things, we will focus on helping the new scouts learn some basic camping skills.  These skills will include fire-building, safe use of knives/axes, setting up tents/tarps, cooking, KP and others, as time permits.

The facility has running water from a hose, changing rooms and 2 porta-johns.

We'll follow our normal routine and try to leave the CUMC parking lot as close to 5pm as possible.  Please show up at 4:45, especially the Patrol leaders.  Remember to bring a bagged dinner on Friday night. We'll return around noon on Sunday.

Camping fees are $16/person and of course your $15 Grubmaster fee to your Grubmaster for Scouts and $20 for adults to your adult grubmaster.   Please bring camping fees, a signed release form from our host location, Outdoor Excursions and a signed Boy Scout permission slip to Laura J. at any Troop Meeting before the campout.  Checks should be made out to Boy Scout Troop 149.  Pay your grubmasters cash in the parking lot before we depart.

NEW SCOUTS: Come with a backpack with camping essentials. A checklist can be found on page 268 in your Scout book with all the essentials listed out for you. All essentials under "Group Camping Gear Checklist" are provided by the troop. This is also the first Tenderfoot requirement, and can be easily achieved at this campout by following the checklist.

That's it for now and we will add details in the coming weeks if needed.
