Family Life Merit Badge offering

Hello Troop 149 Scouts,

I'm Dr. Claire Kaufman (Joel's mom) and I will be offering the Family Life Merit Badge. The first meeting will be 6:30pm, either Monday Nov. 5 or 26, before the troop meeting.

The goal of this merit badge is to:
Understand your role in your family, how to strengthen your family, and how to effectively explain and discuss:
• How the actions of one family member can affect other members
• How to conduct a family meeting
• What makes an effective father and why.

The requirements involve having meetings with your family to discuss topics that can affect your family; planning and doing i) a project by yourself for your family and ii) a project with your family; and keeping track of your chores for 90 days. There will only be 3 group meetings, with the rest of the requirements done at home.

Because this is an Eagle Scout-required merit badge, priority will be given to more advanced scouts.  The group size will be capped at 12 scouts.

Email me (NOT to the troop email) to sign up no later than October 27 with your name and rank. Remember to include another adult on your email.  Scouts will be notified on Oct. 29 about whether or not they will be part of the group for this year. Never fear, this merit badge will be offered again next year and hopefully every year.

The requirements and workbook can be found at:
