Summit High Adventure Camp 2019 -- commit by Nov 30

Troop: we got enough interest in our first email, so Troop 149 will once again be heading down to the Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Jean, West Virginia. That's a mouthful so we just call it The Summit.

This is the least expensive high adventure camp for us to visit, as we can drive there instead of having to fly there! The camp is gorgeous, and the equipment for each program area is top-notch. It's one of the four high-adventure camps, and counts toward the Triple Crown (attending three high adventure camps) and the Grand Slam (attending all four high adventure camps).

And yes, this is the one with wifi in camp. Really.

(Don't worry parents, we will decide as a crew how to handle electronics in camp. The Scouts made good decisions when we first attended and I'll trust the new crew will do the same.)

WHEN: June 23-29, 2019. This is the week after Arlington Public Schools close for the summer
WHO: You must be 13 years of age by September 1, 2019 to attend. No exceptions. Also, Troop 149 requires all Scouts attending high adventure camps to be First Class rank or higher.
WHAT: You get to pick your adventure, basically! Choose from one of the following. The first four are "focused programs," and the last one is a sample of everything!
Helmets & Harnesses: climbing, rappelling, canopy tours, challenge course
Berms & Bars: BMX biking (sorry, no more mountain biking option)
Ramps & Rails: skateboarding (Jackson H, that means you!)
Marksman: shooting sports and archery
Summit Experience: You get to try it all! Half-day experiences at all venues.

Follow those links to read more about them before you decide, and note that everyone has a half-day service project and a half-day on the Big Zip, possibly the highest/longest/fastest zip line you've ever been on.

Also note that, since everyone gets to do what they want, we'll be together as a crew in the morning and in the evening, not during the activities. Therefore, if you want to hang out with a buddy, make sure you both sign up for the same activities! (Also also note that Marksman attendees will spend Monday and Tuesday nights away from the rest of the Troop: Summit staff will provide two-deep leadership if necessary.)

The sign-up will let you pick which main activity you want (focused program or Summit Experience) and then two options for the focused program people (you will spend two half-days experiencing other Summit venues).

HOW MUCH: Fees are $824 for all but the Marksman program (that's the BSA fee plus 3% PayPal fee). Marksman fees are $968 total. Half of the payment is due by Nov 30, the other half will be due by March 30, 2019. FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE!!!!!

PARENT NOTE: I will need at least one more parent to attend and drive, and depending on the turnout, may need additional parents to drive and/or attend.

If you have any questions, please email Mr. Vargas directly at cv@chrisandmaria.com (CC a parent if you are not a parent. Don't CC your parent if you are a parent)
