Philmont 2020 Interest Survey

Troop: we will hopefully be attending Philmont in the summer of 2020. Interested? Read below and fill out the interest form linked at the end.

Philmont is the crown jewel in the National High-Adventure Bases. It's 12 days of backpacking through New Mexico's rugged mountain wilderness, and is a true challenge of all your Scouting skills. To attend you must be 14 years old, or 13 and a rising 9th grader, by the time you arrive at base camp. Read more about it at https://www.philmontscoutranch.org/about/

Now, here are the issues as it stands right now:
* We've been waitlisted for sending two crews to Philmont: that would be 10-20 Scouts and 2-4 adults
* We've asked for earlier treks as that attempts to avoid the rainy season. There are open slots later in July and August, but that's the rainy season
* Total cost including BSA fees, plane fare, ground transportation, and a night or two of hotels, will run at least $2000 per Scout
* WE NEED AN ADULT TO OFFER TO ORGANIZE THE TRIP. That adult can choose to move the trip to one of the open slots, or hold out for coming off the waitlist. If you're a Scout and want to attend Philmont, STRONGLY ENCOURAGE your parent to organize this trip!
* If we want to hold out for the non-rainy season, and don't get it, we could opt to go to a different non-National high adventure backpacking trip, like Lenhok'sin (held at Goshen Scout Camp).

So, if you are interested in going to Philmont, OR if you are an adult who is willing to organize the trip, please reply below by March 1. When expressing your interest, also vote for:

* we should try to go earlier and avoid the rainy season, even if it means missing Philmont in 2020
* we should move to a July/August date, so we can definitely go, even if it means going during the rainy season
